All members of the Oakwood Restoration Committee are volunteers, including the Board members and the Advisory Board Members. There are NO paid members of this committee and several of the committee members give of themselves weekly, and travel 100 miles or more one way. Mr. Hart, chairman of the committee co-ordinates all activities, maintaining grounds, placing headstones at the request of decendants, and restoring the monuments, plantings and fencing to the original state in 1861.
There are many ways to get involved. For those who live too far away to give of their time, the committee would welcome your financial support through membership in the Friends and Descendants Membership. A general membership is $25.00 per year. If you have an ancestor buried in Oakwood Confederate Section of Oakwood Cemetery, then you could become a Descendant., If you have an interest in supporting the honor of the brave soldiers who are buried in the Oakwood Confederate Section of Oakwood Cemetery, then you could become a Friend. We welcome both. And last, but not least, donations are always welcome. All of this can be completed by visiting the membership section of our website.
Aside from membership and donations, we also welcome the support of those willing to provide labor on clean up days and restoration work days. For these services please provide us with your email, so that we can contact you with work dates.
We also need volunteers in all states from across the country to help us raise funds. Capital funds are always welcome, and can be dedicated to specific projects, or in honor of a Confederate Soldier, known or unknown. Please contact Catherine Bowling at email@example.com to help you with the co-ordination of such projects.
